Welcome to Rowans Lane Winery ...

The Henty Wine Region, the most recent recognized wine growing region is situated in south western Victoria. Our Vineyards are located on the eastern boundary of the region at Warrnambool, with sites overlooking both the Merri and Hopkins Rivers.

Our Rowans Lane label depicts the mythical Mahogany Ship, a Portugese Caravell that is said to rest beneath the sand dunes just south of our Dennington Vineyard, having founded there in the 14th century, while exploring the southern coastline of Australia.

Our vines enjoy the benefits of a cool maritime climate, and ripening is enhanced by north-east facing sites, sheltered by hills that slope to the riverbanks. Grapes at these sites ripen slowly intensifying the varietal flavors. Plantings include Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris.

Our Wines ...

Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot, 2003

Both the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon fruits show the typical higher acid which results from cool climate ripening, enabling a wine of good balance and light structure which will compliment richer foods such as red meats, game and many cheeses.

The wine is characterised by a complex nose with hints of violets and the balanced palate shows geranium and black cherry fruit flavour with a good acid finish.

The wine drinks well now and cellaring potential is unknown as it's only a second vintage from five year old vines.

Pinot Noir, 2003

Pinot Noir, the classic grape of Burgundy (France) can be fickle, reflecting the terroir, varietal clones and the age of the wine.

This unfiltered Pinot Noir shows the light brick red colour, strawberry fruit on the nose and palate, and more complex coffee-chocolate mid-palate flavour with a light acid finish. The wine will throw a deposit with age and should be decanted if kept for cellaring.

Enjoy with light game (eg., squab, quail, rabbit) or with acid fruits (eg., raspberry crumble).

Pinot Noir, 2005

Brilliant red wine with aromas of strawberry and cherry and a good acid backbone, allowing fruit flavors to refresh with each mouthful.

Alcohol of 13.2% belies the light colour and with soft tannins suggests an ideal accompaniment to Duck on Quail or other roasted fowl.

A tested and applauded combination is with Raspberry crumble.

Chardonnay, 2003

Henty cool climate fruit, 50% barrel fermented, aroma of yeast lees, white peach flavours and creamy mouth feel, with a strong acid backbone giving a clean crisp finish, balanced with oak and varietal after taste.

Pinot Gris, 2003

Cool climate fruit from the Henty Region giving a scented nose of ripe pear and quince. A clear wine with a crisp acid finish, pale tinge of pink typical of the variety. The wine is made with high acid, Alsation style. Overall an impressive palate which will compliment stronger flavours such as Atlantic salmon, or Asian foods.
